The Staples Jr. Singers

This is the kind of story we just love, and we can already tell this is going to be a special concert. The Staples Jr. Singers were founded in Aberdeen, Mississippi, in the late 1960s, and were part of the soul revolution that moved the fervent sounds of gospel music from church pews to trendy clubs. In 1973 they recorded their first and only album, When Do We Get Paid, but they never hit it big… until now. The reissue of their LP on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label prompted a string of concert bookings, and the Staples Jr. Singers set off on a worldwide tour. Today, they sound as if that fifty-year hiatus never happened.
