Squid

Few rock debuts are awaited as eagerly as this year’s Bright Green Field from the Brighton quintet Squid. The British act whet audiences’ appetites with excellent singles and equally impressive concerts, but the release of an LP is a milestone that can’t be skipped. Produced by Dan Carey, their full-length debut is truly a wonderful record — an audacious blend of post punk and kraut rock with more surprising admixtures of jazz and funk. Finally, a worthy successor to the likes of Pere Ubu, This Heat, and Talking Heads.
