Raphael Rogiński plays John Coltrane & Langston Hughes

A masterpiece, in a live version. That should be enough to recommend this concert. Raphael Rogiński's album, recognized by Pitchfork as an outstanding capture of the mystical and spiritual energy of John Coltrane's music, will resound this year at OFF Festival Katowice. On the material, first released in 2015 under the subtitle "African Mystic Music", the most interesting improvising Polish guitarist fascinatingly reads selected Coltrane songs through the prism of African music. At the same time, he bows to the work of one of the innovators of jazz poetry, Langston Hughes. Almost a decade later, the release has been reissued, enriched with four new compositions, recorded in the summer of 2024. We will soon listen to them in a concert edition at OFF. "Playing live enhances what we do in the studio", says Raphael himself, adding that "now there is even more light in these songs". We are already looking forward to it!
