OFF Festival Katowice 2021: Caribou

08.05.2020

Announcing Caribou as the first confirmed headliner of next year’s OFF Festival.

Caribou’s 2020 release Suddenly was worth every minute of the six year wait after his previous album. Rare is the electronic music artist whose tracks sound as much at home at an Ibiza beach club as they do in your headphones as you curl up on your favorite easy chair. As one Guardian reviewer aptly described the project, Caribou is “in a niche of its own, where electronic auteur meets singer-songwriter, where an innate feel for pop music and the dancefloor co-exists with experimentation.”

We hosted Dan Snaith once before, in 2008, but that was a different OFF Festival in a different city. And Caribou was a different act, one whose sound had yet to mature on the two excellent LPs Swim and Our Love, which gave rise to the warm, dreamy electronica and the unbridled imagination that typifies the act today.

But even then, Caribou’s live shows were an unforgettable experience. Here’s what a reviewer on the Polish independent music site Porcys had to say: “As I’m sure many of you have read many times over, the show in Mysłowice has garnered enthusiastic reviews. I, too, have personally heard quite a range of comments: from a curt brilliant to the more juvenile Holy fuck, there’s no way I’m falling asleep tonight. Not only do I agree with my friends’ observations, I wholeheartedly agree with them and support them. Let me sign on the dotted line. Witnessing his crystal-clear sound, his precise execution worthy of a pre-war clockmaker, and the childlike enjoyment he took from the music, I felt, within a few seconds, the emotional wave that had apparently swept the entire audience.“

That was twelve years ago. Next year is going to be even better. See you in 2021!

The 2021 OFF Festival Katowice will be held August 6–8, 2021, at Three Pond Valley. Ticket sales begin August 10, 2020. Three-day passes will be priced at 369 PLN, or 459 PLN with campsite.
