OFF Festival Katowice 2018: What to know before you go

02.08.2018

The festival’s about to start, so here’s a quick guide to getting here and having a better OFF experience. Read on to find out how to swap your ticket for a wristband, how to get to OFF using public transit, and why you’ll want to use our mobile app. You’ll also find information for people with disabilities and their caregivers.

Don’t forget: To get the festival wristband that lets you enter the OFF Festival 2018 grounds, you’ll need to show your printed ticket and photo ID. You will not be admitted if you only have an electronic ticket on a mobile device! Pick up your wristband at ul. Francuska near the main entrance to the festival.

Transportation

As always during the festival, Silesia’s public transit system (KZK GOP) is generously helping out by providing free bus service to and from the festival. We encourage you to choose this option, for logistical and ethical reasons: there’s very little parking around the festival, and public transportation is just better for the environment.

The special OFF bus line S1 will begin service on Friday, August 3, at 8:02 am and will run until Sunday, August 5. Service will be provided along the following route: Katowice Dworzec (stop no. 5) – Katowice Plac Wolności (bus stop at Centrum Dentystyczne) – Muchowiec Lotnisko Pole Namiotowe — (temporary bus stop at ul. Lotnisko, near the campground) – Osiedle Paderewskiego Trzy Stawy. Buses run every 15 minutes, and every 10 minutes in the evening, between concerts.

You can also reach the OFF Festival area from the following bus stops in central Katowice:

  • Katowice Dworzec (stop 5): buses S1, 110, 600, 672, 674, 900, 910;
  • Katowice Sokolska: 110, 600, 674;
  • Katowice Plac Wolności: S1, 110, 674.

Note! Traffic will be restricted on Sunday for the Tour de Pologne bike race. Traffic will be redirected starting at 4:00 am (see the this website for details: http://www.kzkgop.com.pl/informacje/p-1-zmiany-w-komunikacji-miejskiej-podczas-wyscigu-kolarskiego-tour-de-pologne-etap-ii2018.html). Expect street closures in parts of the city center between 2:00 and 8:00 pm.

Due to traffic restrictions for the Tour de Pologne, special bus S1 will be rerouted from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday. Shuttle service will be provided on the following route: Muchowiec Pole Namiotowe – Katowice Wita Stwosza Archikatedra – Muchowiec Pole Namiotowe. An additional, temporary bus stop will be set up at ul. Wita Stwosza, near the corner of ul. Jordana.

Taxis

We recommend you ride with the cab company Tele-Taxi. To order a taxi call 32 209 0909. Show your festival wristband to get 10% off.

Tele-Taxi has cabs that can accommodate passengers with disabilities. Pregnant women get free rides from ul. Francuska to the main gate.

The app

Once you get to the festival, you might find the OFF Festival app useful (available for iOS and Android).

  • Look up artists and details of the music and literary program (sort by stage and time).
  • Find all the relevant information about the festival in one place, including a list of frequently asked questions.
  • Schedule your own OFF experience, and get a reminder when your next can’t-miss show is about to start.
  • Push notifications keep you posted on important announcements.
  • Check the festival map to find out where to go and what you’ll find there.
  • Find out how to get to the festival, and what attractions await you in and near Katowice.
  • Browse OFF’s Facebook and Instagram in the Social section.
  • Get tickets from the OFF Shop (if you don’t already have them).
  • Most importantly, once installed, the app works even without a data connection (except for updates and push notifications, of course).

Schedule changes

With dozens of artists and so many factors involved, it’s almost inevitable that someone cancels their performance at the last minute. This year is no different, for reasons beyond our control, but we’ve managed to find worthy substitutes. Standing in for Yellow Days is the Russian band Shortparis, who have stirred up quite a sensation in recent months. John Maus has cut his tour short due to a family tragedy, and will be replaced by the Japanese psychedelic Krautrock group Bo Ningen, whom OFF audiences will remember from their previous appearance. Gary War will not be performing, either, but Ariel Pink will fill his slot with a special DJ set!

Accommodations for people with disabilities

As always, the OFF Festival welcomes people with disabilities and their caregivers.

Caregivers of people with mobility or visual impairments receive free admission once their status has been verified (see the festival rules and regulations for details). Guide dogs are also welcome at the festival. Viewing platforms have been set up in front of the Main Stage and Forest Stage. See the festival map for exact locations, or inquire at the information booth, where the staff will also help you find a wheelchair battery charging station (be sure to pack a power adapter, if necessary).

We also have a kind request to all OFF Festival guests: look out for each other. If you notice that someone needs help that you can’t provide, notify security or medical staff. Let’s make this festival a safe, happy experience for everyone.
